Erev Shabbat

So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God,

                                                                                                                                                    — Hebrews 4:9 ESV

SHABBAT (Hebrew for “rest” or “stop”) is a time where we remember that the LORD is God and we are not. It’s where we remember that He alone is the Creator and Provider who rested on the seventh day (Gen 2:2). Therefore, we can rest, knowing that He is in control and upholds the universe by the word of His power (Heb 1:3a). It is during Shabbat that we recall that because of Messiah Jesus’ finished work (John 19:30) we are able to enter into God’s rest (Heb 4:9).

WHAT TO EXPECT

Shabbat Dinners

During Shabbat dinners, we come together as a church family to participate in the beautiful Jewish practice of setting apart one day per week for rest and reflection about the Lord. It’s our joy to invite those from the places where we live, work, and play to share in our fellowship and experience God’s love. Before and after eating, we set apart some time to observe a number of symbolic practices that remind us of our God who creates and redeems.

Bring

Please make (or purchase) a side and/or meal to share. Out of respect and honor for the religious convictions of our Jewish friends (see Romans 14), we ask that you abstain from bringing food that mixes meat and dairy, as well as food with pork or shellfish.

Next Gen

During Erev Shabbat events, childcare is not provided, as we believe it’s important to not only have our children observe the church in relationship, but also to include them in the meaningful practices of the covenant community. In fact, during our Shabbat meals, parents are invited to pray a special blessing over their children, as well as to include them in the conversations we share in as the family of God.
